a.  What are the five major areas of debate when it comes to the notion of Who is American and What it means to be American?  List and explain briefly.    

b. In what ways do these five major areas emphasize what qualities Americans share?  How do they highlight the ways Americans differ from one another? 

c.  Which area of the debate seems most central to the question of Who is American? In your viewpoint?  Explain your answer.

d.  Many of these topics are common areas of debate for large multicultural nations, such as the US, Russia and China.  Many of these topics are also elements of debate in Russia.  Choose one topic and explain how it is a topic of debate in Russia.  What are some of the opinions related to this issue as articulated by Russian – and other nationalities in Russia?
